Spousal abuse in the family court is treated slightly differently than in criminal court. Often, clients think they need to have indisputable proof and have police records to be able to prevail in family court. That is not always the case. Domestic violence is a very concerning matter and we take it seriously.
Physical, emotional and financial abuse are not acceptable in any intimate relationship, regardless of marital status. Legal protections are available for any intimate relationship, not just those who are married. This includes those who are only involved in dating relationships. Intimate partner abuse is just as common in the LGBTQ community as the straight community.
